Wee Person |

What do you think? I consider the traditional styles more of a starting point than a goal. This design is my interpretation of the Wee Folk, of legend. I call this 'Wee Person'. He is a companion to the greenman, but a bit more youthful, and playful. Rather Cherubic, isn't he? Every once in a while, when I come out of my carving studio, I feel these little folk are near, but I never seem to be able to catch sight of them! This is how I imagine them, pushing the leaves aside carefully, and peering out. See his little fingernails, there, on the curling leaf? I went nuts on the details here, even carving the inside of the curling leaf. This button is a usable design, suitable for holding a heavy costume cloak, or closing a purse or belt pouch. The edges of this button are carefully rounded and polished, and any possible snag points have been carefully rounded down. If you prefer to keep it carefully tucked in you collection, I won't hold it against you:) |

This button is signed, and dated, Feb 28, 2005. It is carved from Shed Scandinavian Axis Antler. The shank is broad, and flat-backed, with a good sized hole, which has beveled edges, so as not to cut you cord or thread. Imagine that, A button-shaped Button! |
