How 'bout a nice, hot, pan-fried breakfast?
It's green eggs and Ham!
There are three different materials here.

The Egg yolks are guaranteed, tested, vintage Bakelite.
The egg whites are conch shell, as is the slab of ham.
Can you see the little pour-spout,
by the ham?

The shank is tucked underneath the handle.

I cut the "Fry Pan" out of the handle of an old Mirro pressure cooker.
I have not definitively identified this material.
It is definitely an old Thermoset Resin.
It has a weighty feel to it,
such that the fry pan almost seems to be the right scale weight.
In fact, this button actually weighs about 3 grams (almost 1/8th ounce).
This material is very solid.
It passes the hot pin test, but does not have that familiar phenolic smell.
In fact, the smell of this material, when carved, is almost pleasant.
It does not pass the 409 test.
If pressed,
I would guess that it is some sort of milk resin.

I was able to retain the original design from the old handle.
I just think it is a nice 'Retro' detail.
Here we have a better look at the shell materials.
The egg whites are actually two tones of shell,
with white and transclucent-clear material from the interior of the cameo shell.
The ham is from the exterior flat-spiral end of the shell.
I carved the little round bone through the reddish exterior, to the white.

Plenty of room on this button for my full signature,
and 3-2006. I finished this cute button last night, March 9th.

This carved wonder is 7/8ths of an inch wide,
1.5 inches long,
and 1/4th inch thick.

This button includes a certificate of Authenticity,
With carve date, material list,
carving image and my signature.
